Winthrop Kale RN PT
Sept 22, 2011 Kale easily qualified 2 rounds to earn his AKC herding Pre-Trial Tested title!
Dec 10, 2011 Rally Novice title, won 2nd place with a 95 score!
Jan 14-15, 2012 Kale Q'd both days in Herding Started, sheep, A course with 1st and 2nd placements, and RHIT both days!
At 10 weeks, Kale is 11 pounds and growing nicely. He is learning hand touches, crate games, recalls, and *not* to tug on my clothes! He is a thoughtful boy. He enthusiastically chased his sister Clary chasing sheep, but not too sure what to do with those woolies himself.
June 12, 2010 Kale at 11 1/2 weeks visiting at his first NADAC agility trial, first time on a "puppy dogwalk":

June 29-14 weeks Weight 19 pounds, BIG feet! A lovely boy! Kale had his first agility/puppy training lesson with Stacy Winkler. He is working on sit, down, recalls, hand touches, spins both right and left, circle work with pace changes and crate games. He loves "digging" in his water dish, belly rubs, stalking his big sister Fly, and licking my toes after I shower! I love his 4 white feet with no stockings just like his Grandpa, Lyle Lad's famous herding dog Cap--hopefully he has inherited other good traits from Cap!

June 24, 2010-4 months old! Kale is continuing with agility "ground work" and learning shaping behaviors. He is teething, and left ear is really floppy right now. I hope it comes back up again...but if it doesn't, then he will just have a little more "character!"

The ducks are quacking inside the garage; he wants them to come out and play!

And the boy is beginning to show a knack for herding!
January 2011, 10 months Kale had a set-back in his training due to an OCD flap on his left shoulder causing intermittant mild lameness for the past few months. I think he kamekaze crashed into the fence (or his sister) one too many times and paid the price! He had surgery January 28, 2011, and is recovering quite well. He should not have any more problems with the shoulder during his life, and he is raring to get into any activity I want to try with him! We just started herding again at the birthday party March 26. This sweet boy has been very patient during his healing process with severely restricted activity for several months... And I can hardly wait to see his potential develop now!
March 26, 2011-1 year old The pups turned 1 yo on March 23, so we had a birthday party at the herding facility! Kale has also started a Beginner 2 Obedience class. He LOVES toys, fetching and playing tug, sheep and ducks (but no tugging on them!)

April 16, 2011 Kale was part of a herding demonstration at "The World's Largest Family Pet Expo" at Costa Mesa, CA, showing how we start a young dog in herding. He did great, and got a rousing round of applause from the audience! Terry Parrish is narrating in the foreground, and you might notice a *Boxer* behind us--that's Pip, the world's highest titled Boxer in herding. In the demos over the weekend we also had a Corgi, Sheltie, Rottweiler, Bouvier, Australian Shepherd, German Shepherd and Belgian Tervuren showing how different breeds herd.

Sept 22, 2011 Kale earned his AKC Pre-Trial Tested herding title!

Sept 3-4, 2011 Kale earned two Rally Novice legs and two Beginner Novice legs in AKC obedience, with a 2nd and two 3rd place ribbons; the 4th Q he did not place due to handler error...Sorry, Kale!
Dec 10, 2011 Kale finished his Rally Novice title with a score of 95 and second place in a large class!
Jan 14, 15, 2012 Kale earned his first 2 AKC Herding Started A Course-sheep legs with a 1st and 2nd place, winning Reserve High in Trial on A Course both days!
