Myrrh was bred to JusDandy Jaydee on April 10, and had 8 puppies June 11, 2007, 6 girls and 2 boys! These puppies are dual registered, with ABCA and AKC. All of the puppies weighed between 11 oz. and 15 oz. and are nursing vigorously! All of the pups are evenly marked: six are black and white with traditional markings, and two of the females (one with white collar and the other mostly black) are tri-colors!
Both parents are OFA Hips Good, OFA Elbows Normal, CERF Normal, and CEA/DNA Normal. This litter should have outstanding performance potential in multiple venues.

Newborns
2days old:

Blue (boy) and Purple (girl) Green (girl)

Orange (boy)
The pups are growing!
"Pink" girl, 1 week old, no collar, mostly black.

"Purple" girl, 3 days old, tri, but only under tail currently. "Blue" boy, 1 week old.

10 days old--Red girl on the bottom (unusual!), White on top
Blue boy
Yellow girl
We are doing Early Neurological Stimulation with each pup 3-16 days of age, otherwise known as the "Super Dog Program." Orange boy, 11 days old on the cool, wet towel for 3-5 seconds.

Purple girl, 11days old
Purple again
On Day 12, Purple and Pink Girls tied for first to open eyes, followed by Blue Boy and Red Girl; Day 13, Yellow Girl and White Girl's eyes started to open, still waiting on Orange and Green to join the seeing world, which they did the next day.
6/24/07, Day 13 news flash! Orange Boy was technically the first one out of the box, but it doesn't count because he managed it by holding onto the nipple so tightly that Myrrh "carried" him out. Later in the day, Blue Boy earned the honor honestly--first puppy to climb out of the box! All are up on their feet, toddling around the whelping box energetically.

Three weeks update: 7/2/07
The White girl is serious and calm, very deliberate in her actions, seems to be a "thinker."

The Purple girl is very active, sociable, and always "talking" about everything!

The Blue boy is coordinated, a problem-solver, and sociable. Orange boy is pushy with a one-track mind.

The Red girl is dominant, sociable (on HER terms!), and a confident explorer. However, after playing all morning with only brief naps, she was too tuckered to wake up for pictures this afternoon!

The Yellow girl is sweet, quiet and very sociable.
The Green girl is a plucky little thing, seems very flexible and sociable.
The Pink girl seems the most playful, and always wants to cuddle up with the nearest person.
So today, after cutting teeth, starting on some solid food, exploring the new little tunnel, growling, playing, and taking pictures, here's "a pile of skunks" all tuckered out: (top to bottom) Orange boy, Yellow, Purple, and Red girls

7/3/07--3 weeks
All of the pups love the tunnel! White's racing thru! Red says, "Give me the free milk!!!"

"Mom, they're double-teamin' me! " "Yuck!"

4 weeks update:
This past week each pup has been individually to the kitchen with me to see how he/she reacted in a new environment; all "passed" with flying colors, only minor differences in willingness to explore independently, then find and return happily to the handler. They started on "puppy gruel" with soft ground Eagle Pack Holistic Chicken/Rice Puppy kibble and goat's milk. Mama Myrrh is still nursing them about 2-3 times a day. Every day they are listening to "Puppy Racket," a tape with household noises, including thunderstorms, bangs, bongs, raps, motors, laughing, crying, etc. Each puppy is 2 3/4 to just under 3 pounds. Saturday they were wormed with liquid Pyrantel. All seek out social interaction with humans! New activities starting this week are teaching hand touch, luring to wave, sit and down using raw hamburger bits, and wearing their very own puppy color collars!

5 weeks update:
So much to do, so little time! The puppies are learning lots with new experiences every day. Last weekend they started going outdoors, including at night with only a flashlight for light. Grass! Rocks! Bugs! Duck feathers! DIRT! Everything is a great adventure. Yesterday I got the baby teeter out--it only has a drop of about 3 inches, and ends are padded so there is no "bang," just the movement of the board under their feet. I set it outside with the whole bunch and let them try it out free-choice without any luring or attempts to shape behavior. Within about 10 minutes, every one of them was happily jumping on, tipping the board, and running to the end, no problems or hesitation whatsoever! This morning I had to hurriedly "fence" my back porch to prevent accidental falls (none happened) because they are starting to climb up and down the 4 open steps to the porch! Each puppy is continuing with daily individual "training" time with sits, downs, hand touches and waves rewarded with raw hamburger bits. I started leash training, attaching a very light leash to the collar and let them drag it, then picked up the leash and used mild restraint briefly to prevent them from going towards something of interest, then called them and rewarded with hamburger for coming.
Best guess on development (in birth order):
White girl: Smooth coat. High energy level, but will also settle and cuddle. Boldly explores, returns readily.
Purple girl: Rough coat. Highest energy level, bold, first one up AND down the steps, still one of the most vocal pups.
Blue boy: Rough coat. Remains one of the best problem-solvers. Quiet most of the time.
Red girl: Smooth coat. The litter is uniform in size, and the others are sticking up for themselves; seems to be moderating her pushiness and dominance, a good thing! She remains bold, not a lap dog, but will cuddle up beside you. Quiet.
Yellow: Smooth coat. Sweet, a little more timid at times, but gains confidence quickly in new situations.
Green: Shortest smooth coat. Good energy level, bold, sticks up for herself.
Orange: Smooth coat. The lights have turned on! Really coming into his own mentally and physically. Relating well, actually retrieved a paper wad to me tonight!
Pink: Rough coat. A little lower energy level, very playful. Good problem solver, a real thinker.
Chow time outside!

6 weeks update:
Busy, busy week! This week they have been spending quite a bit of time outside, playing with toys, running (and tumbling) up and down the stairs, continuing with individual training with Teresa. Saturday Joyce Norris brought some small Call ducks over, and we videotaped each pup in a 10' x 10' pen with 2 ducks. Today (Monday 7/23/07) they all went to the vet's for a physical exam and first distemper and parvo shots; all passed with flying colors, and not a wince or whimper at the shot! Here are comments on each pup from the week's activities, in birth order:
White: 5.9 pounds. Teresa says, "Worked well, offering all behaviors...most proficient at stairs." Avidly pursued the ducks; knew something was "wrong" when the ducks split, "Definitely has herding instinct."
White
Purple: 6.5 pounds. Teresa: "Offering behaviors more than luring. Great touch, sit and down." Very interested in the ducks, did not rush in on them, moved forward then back several times, watched from a distance. "Showed good interest."
Purple
Blue: 6.2 pounds. Teresa: "Worked well and happily for soaked kibble...very growly when wrestling." Very interested in the ducks, pursuing, then "going to the heads."
Blue and Orange boys
Red: 6.3 pounds. Teresa: "Worked well, very feisty. Sat and down quickly." With ducks, first explored the new environment, then became interested in moving the ducks. Showed some restraint, good interest.
Red, with Orange
Yellow: 5.5 pounds. Teresa: "Worked well, great sit and touch, trouble with down (squirmy.) Very much prefers snuggling to wrestling." With ducks, was intimidated in the new environment, went to the corner wanting out repeatedly, but not panicky.
Yellow
Green: 5.7 pounds. Teresa: "Worked well, great sit and down. Doesn't offer behaviors as well as some. Loves to play with hair." With ducks, initially cautious, but when she discovered they would move away from her, pursued avidly. Stopped when they flapped wings, then pursued again. Joyce noted, "She's starting to work them and rate them so they don't flap!" (and Joyce wanted to take her home...)
Green, preparing to bounce down the stairs
Orange: 6.2 pounds. Teresa: "Offering all behaviors very well, likes hands thumping (on floor), not growly or overly biting." With ducks, initially checking out the new environment. When he discovered the ducks moved away from him, he pursued and showed sustained interest. Another note: on 7/18/07, he actually fetched a paper wad to me! (Most of the pups chased, nosed it and returned to me without the paper wad.)
Orange
Pink: 5.6 pounds. Teresa: "Offered all behaviors well, will actually seek hand for touch. Offered wave. Growly with thumping hands (on floor.)" With ducks, cautious sustained interest. Ducks split, and she put them back together, then avidly pursued.
Pink
Having so much fun with these pups that I'm not getting much else done! Myrrh has them almost completely weaned, and about ready for their new homes!
6 1/2 weeks update:
7/26/07: Another car ride for a professional photography shoot--the puppies are going to be models for ProPac dog food advertising! It was a great socialization opportunity in a different location with flash photography, occasional loud noises from the industrial air conditioner, and new people to meet. Every single puppy was a "star" showing their good temperaments and confidence. A grand time was had by all!
